Lisa + Donnie R OK is one of several photographs from my Strange Geographies series (2022-2023). This body of photographic work explores the beauty of fractured reality following social disasters like Quarantine and Hurricane Katrina. Shot entirely on 35mm film, these pieces document intimate moments while acknowledging the disruption of community bonds during periods of isolation and displacement.
The source imagery for these collages began as black and white 35mm film photographs. To create a sense of distortion and represent the surrealism of isolation, I printed my photographs as transparencies, cut them into various shapes, and reassembled each image on a scanner. Through this spontaneous process of trial and error, I developed compositions where new environments emerge. The resulting images are neither factual nor false, but reframe ideas of community, discovery, and the built environment.
